The objective of the research was to extract coagulants from cacti by lyophilization for the treatment of water for human consumption. Two varieties of Nopal (Opuntia ficus) and San Pedro (Echinopsis pachanoi) cacti were used. The leaves were minced and subjected to freeze-drying and ground to 250 microns; A drinking water solution with 0.15% kaolin (artificial water) was prepared; A 3x2x2 factorial arrangement was used, three levels for factor 1 (coagulant dose, 30, 40 and 50 mg / L), two levels for factor 2 (stirring speed, 30 and 40 RPM) and 2 levels for factor 3 (variety of the coagulant, Nopal and San Pedro), obtaining 12 treatments, which were analyzed in a test test of Phipps & Bird brand jars; The clarifying capacity was evaluated through the flocculant activity (AF) by absorbance and the removal percentage (% R), likewise the physicochemical parameters of the treated water were determined such as pH and Conductivity (with selective electrode), turbidity and Hardness (colorimetric method); The data were reported in triplicate, analyzing normality, an analysis of variance and a Tukey mean comparison test at 5% significance was applied, through the Statgraphics software. The results obtained for the extraction performance of the lyophilized coagulant were 3.29 ± 0.25% for the San Pedro variety and 7.13 ± 0.32%; For the Nopal variety, the effect of the agitation speed, dose and variety of cactus coagulant on the clarifying capacity was evaluated through the flocculant activity and the removal percentage, with respect to the flocculant activity it was observed that there is a significant difference between The treatments, on the other hand, the effect of the Nopal variety, higher coagulant dose and lower agitation speed presented better flocculant activity, in the same way the removal percentage presented a significant difference between the treatments, in addition the effect of the Nopal variety, greater Coagulant dose and lower stirring speed showed a higher percentage of removal (99.35% removal of solids. The effect of stirring speed, dose and variety of cactus coagulant on the physicochemical parameters of the treated water was evaluated through pH, Turbidity, Hardness and Conductivity; the pH decreased considerably with respect to its initial value, if However, using a lower dose of coagulant, lower stirring speed and Nopal variety, the pH remains almost neutral, on the other hand, Turbidity reported high values compared to the initial value; however, at higher doses, higher speed and Nopal variety, close values are obtained. to this, on the other hand, Hardness and Conductivity decreased considerably with respect to the initial value.en_US
