(realizarse masajes y amamantar a libre demanda).
The objective of the research entitled “LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES OF
EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING IN PUERPERAS OF THE REGIONAL HOSPITAL OF
CUSCO JANUARY-MAY 2020“ is to: Determine the level of knowledge and practice of
exclusive breastfeeding in postpartum women at the Regional Hospital of Cusco. Its
descriptive design was of an observational type. The results were: 33.8% of the puerperal
women are from the age group 36 years and over, half of the puerperal women come from
urban areas, 52.5% of the participants have secondary education as a degree, 58.8% of the
respondents .They are cohabiting, of which they have an average of 1-2 children. Regarding
knowledge, 62.5% agree that exclusive breastfeeding is up to 6 months, most of the
participants are unaware that breastfeeding can be used as MELA, in the same way, mothers
are unaware that breastfeeding prevents postpartum hemorrhages. Regarding the practices,
65% of the respondents agree that for a good breastfeeding the baby must grasp the entire
nipple, as for the stimulation of the milk output, 73.85% suggest that they should drink liquids
(mates) practice is wrong since mothers should only (massage and breastfeed on demand).
More than half of the respondents use soap and water to clean the nipple, this practice is wrong
since the mother only needs breast milk, 57.5% of the respondents answered appropriately
that the correct way to express breast milk is by placing the thumb and the index forming the
letter “C“, 54.4% do not know the correct form of storage.
