OBJETIVO: Determinar la prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal auto percibida en
escolares de 12 años de edad en el distrito de Wanchaq, Cusco 2018.
MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: El presente trabajo de investigación tiene el diseño
descriptivo, Cuantitativo, de tipo Transversal. Fue aplicado a una muestra constituida
por 254 fichas epidemiológicas de escolares de 12 años de edad de los centros
educativos del distrito de Wanchaq El tipo de muestreo fue probabilístico, por
proporcionalidad fija y finalmente aleatorio simple. Se desarrolló una base de datos en
el Software Excel y posteriormente se utilizó el Programa SPSS ver. 20 al análisis
estadístico respectivo.
RESULTADOS: La prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal auto percibida mediante el
Self Report en escolares de 12 años de edad fue del 86.2%, y de acuerdo al sexo fue
mayor en el sexo femenino (45.7%) en relación al masculino (40.6%). La prevalencia de
enfermedad periodontal mediante el Índice de Russell fue del 55.9% y de acuerdo al
sexo fue mayor en el sexo masculino (29.9%), en relación al sexo femenino (26.0%).
Los niveles de enfermedad periodontal mediante el Índice de Russell de acuerdo al
sexo fueron, en el sexo masculino el mayor porcentaje fue la gingivitis simple y en el
sexo femenino fue el tejido de soporte clínicamente normal esta asociación fue
significativa.
CONCLUSIÓN: Se llegó a concluir que la prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal auto
percibida mediante el Self Report fue del 86.2% y la prevalencia de enfermedad
periodontal mediante el Indicé de Russell fue del 55.9%. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of self-perceived periodontal disease in 12-
year-old schoolchildren in the district of Wanchaq, Cusco 2018.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present research work has the descriptive,
quantitative, cross-sectional design. It was applied to a sample constituted by 254
epidemiological records of 12-year-old schoolchildren from the educational centers of
the Wanchaq district. The type of sampling was probabilistic, by fixed proportionality
and, finally, simple random. A database was developed in Excel Software and later the
SPSS Program ver. 20 to the respective statistical analysis.
RESULTS: The prevalence of self-reported periodontal disease by Self Report in 12-
year-old schoolchildren was 86.2%, and according to sex was higher in females (45.7%)
in relation to males (40.6%). The prevalence of periodontal disease using the Russell
Index was 55.9% and according to sex was higher in the male sex (29.9%), in relation to
the female sex (26.0%). The levels of periodontal disease using the Russell Index
according to sex was, in the male sex, the highest percentage was simple gingivitis and
in the female sex it was the clinically normal support tissue this association was
significant.
CONCLUSION: It was concluded that the prevalence of self-reported periodontal
disease by Self Report was 86.2% and the prevalence of periodontal disease using the
Russell Index was 55.9%.
