In the present research work, is analyzed the influence of the superficial state of the flexible
pavement determined by means of the method Pavement Condition Index (PCI) in the
comfort that this offers to the user in terms of reductions of speed and vibrations.
The PCI methodology was subdivided for each lane of the roads, and thus have a better
relationship in the contrast of results; then it was applied in the circuit of Sacsayhuaman
which consists of 3 roads: Sacsayhuaman road, Zone X road and Annex to the esplanade,
which together have 3905 meters of flexible pavement, then its PCI rating was determined to
later give alternative solutions as appropriate.
With the application of the method, 71 sample units were registered for the Sacsayhuaman
road, 27 for the X Zone and 6 for the annex to the esplanade.and when carrying out the
subdivision by lanes they were registered in the Sacsayhuaman road, Zone X road and Annex
to the esplanade; 34, 13 and 3 sample units for each lane respectively.
The results are presented as follows; the state of the Sacsayhuaman road is bad with a PCI of
30.24, the right lane is in a bad state with a PCI of 26.68 and the left lane is also in a bad state
with a PCI of 30.38; the status of the X-Zone road is very bad with a PCI of 15.75, the right
lane in very bad condition with a PCI of 14.77 and the left lane also in a very bad state with a
PCI of 11.23 and finally the annex to the esplanade is in a bad state with a PCI of 28.05, the
right lane in a very bad state with a PCI of 22 and the left lane in a bad state with a PCI of
34.33.
The reductions of speed and vibrations were obtained through the use of smartphones and
applications, of which the result indicates that significant reductions in speed and the presence
of vibrations are related to the surface condition of the pavement.
The final results of the investigation conclude that if a road is in a very bad or failed state, the
significant reductions in speed will be more constant, the vibrations will be more intense so
the comfort of service provided by this route will be terrible. This is why the Zone X road is
the one that provides the worst comfort of service because it has the superficial state of this
road is the most critical of the 3 evaluated roads.
