The present research work determines the trip generation rate of the Service Stations with
Convenience Market of the city of Cusco, aiming to be a valid tool for future project planners.
For this research, the methodology of the “Trip Generation” manual of the Institute of
Transportation Engineers (ITE) of the United States was applied, due to the lack of a national
manual.
Data on general characteristics, physical characteristics and configuration were collected within
the surrounding region of 41 Service Stations with Convenience Market, to be able to determine
by evaluating the site context the number of study sites to be investigated, deducing that only
39 of These are similar in terms of the different characteristics and configurations, because the
other two Service Stations with Convenience Market are in a configuration within the
surrounding region (location within the urban area) different from the others. Taking into
account that data was also collected for the explanatory variables recommended by the Institute
of Transportation Engineers (ITE).
After determining that only 39 Service Stations with Convenience Market will be investigated,
the vehicle counts were carried out in order to determine the different peak hours (Peak Hour
AM, Peak Hour PM, Peak Hour of the Day), to calculate the trip generation rate (for each
Service Station with Convenience Market) and the average trip generation rate based on the
two recommended explanatory variables (Vehicle Fuel Positions and Total Area).
Subsequently, the standard deviation was calculated and a regression analysis (the best fitting
equation) was performed for each average trip generation rate.
Finally, the different results diagrams were made to be used by the planners, concluding that
all the diagrams can be used and recommending that the diagram (Peak Hour of the Day vs.
Total Area) should be the most used because its coefficient of determination (R² = 0.5218)
represents the best fit (greater than 0.50) and is the one that is closest to 1, with a difference
from the other coefficients of determination calculated.
