Impacto económico de la actividad turística en los hogares de la provincia de Canchis, período 2008-2019

Abstract

La actividad turística es un motor importante del desarrollo a nivel nacional, regional y local. Sin embargo, en la literatura económica, se ha identificado una brecha en la literatura económica local que permita establecer cuantitativamente la relación entre una mayor actividad turística y el desarrollo económico local de la provincia de Canchis. La presente investigación dar solución a esta problemática investigando el impacto de la actividad turística en los ingresos y el empleo de la población de la provincia de Canchis en el período 2008-2019. Se utiliza un diseño no experimental e información estadística de la Encuesta Nacional de Hogares junto con un modelo de propensity score matching para identificar el impacto tanto en el nivel de ingresos como en las horas trabajadas comparando al sector turismo y actividades relacionadas con el sector agrícola de la provincia de Canchis. Los resultados indican que la actividad turística ha incrementado los ingresos anuales en un promedio de 3807.32 soles y ha incrementado el número de horas trabajadas por semana en 3.4 horas adicionales. Asimismo, se ha encontrado que el impacto económico observado se debe a causa de (1) una mayor transición de actividades agrícolas a actividades comerciales que se refleja en una reducción de las horas destinadas a la agricultura, y (2) por un incremento en las ventas de artesanías y tejidos, mayores ingresos en el sector hotelero y por una transición al sector transporte como actividad primaria durante el período de estudio en la provincia de Canchis.

Tourism is an important driver of development at the national, regional and local levels. However, in the economic literature, a gap has been identified in the local economic literature that allows quantitatively establishing the relationship between increased tourism activity and the local economic development of the province of Canchis. This research will solve this problem by investigating the impact of tourism activity on income and employment of the population of the province of Canchis in the period 2008-2019. A non-experimental design and statistical information from the National Household Survey are used together with a propensity score matching model to identify the impact on both the level of income and the hours worked comparing the tourism sector and activities related to the agricultural sector of the province of Canchis. The results indicate that tourism activity has increased annual income by an average of 3807.32 soles and has increased the number of hours worked per week by 3.4 additional hours. Likewise, it has been found that the observed economic impact is due to (1) a greater transition from agricultural activities to commercial activities that is reflected in a reduction in the hours devoted to agriculture, and (2) an increase in the sales of handicrafts and fabrics, higher income in the hotel sector and a transition to the transport sector as a primary activity during the study period in the province of Canchis
